Project Overview
This project explored how people in Malta perceive “beauty” through photography across cultures. Using participatory research and thematic analysis, I designed a storytelling platform that supports inclusive cultural expression and community contribution.
The Problem
Despite Malta’s multicultural population, there are limited inclusive channels that support cross-cultural understanding through everyday experiences. This reduces opportunities for people to engage with local cultural identity and community perspectives.
The Goal
Design an inclusive digital platform that captures diverse perceptions of Maltese beauty through photography and storytelling - with a structure that is easy to explore, contribute to, and scale.

Aproach & Methodology
I explored how people in Malta perceive beauty through photography by collecting images from archives and participants, alongside stories from everyday life. Using interviews and surveys, I gathered qualitative and quantitative insights to understand cultural identity, emotion, and meaning behind visual narratives.
I synthesized research findings using affinity mapping and thematic analysis to identify key challenges in cultural representation and beauty perception. This helped frame the core problem: Malta lacks inclusive channels that support cross-cultural understanding through everyday visual storytelling.
Based on the findings, I designed a content taxonomy that organizes narratives into cultural categories such as architecture, tradition, everyday life, and nature. I then translated this structure into wireframes and a high-fidelity interactive prototype, ensuring consistent navigation and storytelling flow.
I shared the prototype with participants through Figma for feedback and validation. Their responses confirmed the platform’s value in representing diverse perspectives and highlighted improvements for scalability, such as expanding categories and enriching future user-generated stories.
