Malta Photography Convention

I had the opportunity to attend the Malta Photography Convention 2023, organised by the Malta Institute of Professional Photography, and it turned out to be one of the most inspiring photography events I’ve experienced.

Across the two days, the convention brought together photographers of all levels who shared the same passion for visual storytelling. The sessions covered everything from lighting fundamentals and studio workflows to more advanced discussions on portrait, fashion, and product photography. What stood out most was how practical and hands-on the talks were  this wasn’t just theory, but real techniques that can be applied immediately in professional work.

A major highlight for me was taking part in Dominik Zky’s workshop. His approach to lighting, direction, and creative decision-making was both thoughtful and refreshingly honest. Watching his process in action, and understanding how he builds an image from concept to execution, gave me new ideas to experiment with in my own work. The workshop wasn’t just educational it was genuinely motivating.

Beyond the talks and workshops, the convention was also a fantastic space to connect with fellow photographers. Conversations between sessions, shared experiences, and seeing how others approach their craft reminded me how valuable community is in a creative field.

I left the event with new techniques, fresh inspiration, and a stronger sense of direction for my photography moving forward. Events like this are a reminder that growth often comes from stepping into spaces where learning, creativity, and collaboration meet.

I’m already looking forward to the next one!
